A Hive Of Activity … Not Yet in N.O.
While the start of the Free Agency period has provided ample buzz around the NBA, things appear to be as quiet as a typical Sunday afternoon for the Hornets. Rumors are flying across the league, stars are packing their bags, Shaq’s Twitter page is a flutter, and none of it seems to involve New Orleans. So far.
That can’t be said for our division rival Rockets who, in light of recent news about Yao, have been all over the league’s front page. Following the recent defection of Ron Artest to the Lakers in a 3-year deal, the Rockets have made a move for Lakers 24 year-old forward Trevor Ariza. The UCLA standout who was so instrumental in helping L.A.’s capture its 15th title, has signed a deal that the L.A. Times reports is worth $33 million over five years.
Other moves included Hedo Turkoglu leaving the Magic, wavering on the Blazers, and ultimately committing to the Raptors after his wife announced how much she loves Toronto. Yes, she may very well wear the pants in the relationship, but when we think of cosmopolitan venues with significant a Turkish population you might be surprised to note that Portland does not rank up near the top. That Toronto does was the real surprise for me.
Also in NBA news Stephon Marbury does not want to play for the Celtics. Shocking. What’s more stunning is that he thinks that anyone cares … or will miss him. Here’s one vote for I hope I’m not posting to you later this week with news that he’s headed for the Hornets. Knock on wood.
