Although I believe Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is the leader of the Charlotte Bobcats, I also think that MKG needs to improve is his shooting. During the summer league games, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist showed us that he can shoot the 3. Although he hit the 3, shooting is his weak spot. He brings so much to the table. His versatility on defense is a major plus. As I have stated for quite some time, he is Shawn Marion 2.0, other known as the “Matrix: Reloaded.” Shawn Marion has been known as “The Matrix” for a long time. He has the build of a small forward, but played the po
wer forward position. MKG is the same way. He can play the power forward position against a lot of teams, with the exception of the Lakers and Spurs.
Another good thing about MKG’s game is his tenacity. He does not give up on plays. You could argue that he was the best player on Kentucky’s 2012 championship team. Everyone (including me) will say that Anthony Davis was the best player in college basketball during the 2012 season. However, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was a close second and they played on the same team. When Kentucky played North Carolina last season, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist outplayed Harrison Barnes and he was a major reason why Kentucky won the game. Anthony Davis played a key role. MKG’s hustled throughout that entire game. He was like the Energizer bunny, because he just kept going and going and going.
I have touched what Michael needs to work on, and what is good at. I think leadership is something that he already possesses. He will get better with experience when it comes to being a leader. Right now, Mike Dunlap needs to start grooming MKG for the role as the captain of the team. From Day 1, MKG needs to know that this is his team and that the future of the Bobcats’ franchise will be built around him.
