How the Charlotte Bobcats matchup with the Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks shed a ton of salary this offseason when they unloaded the albatross Joe Johnson from around their necks. They still have Josh Smith and Al Horford, though, and they’re still way better than the Charlotte Bobcats.

At point guard, the Hawks got Lou Williams, presumably to come off the bench behind Jeff Teague and add some punch to their offense. It’ll be fun to watch him go against Kemba Walker, and Ramon Sessions vs Teague could be a nice battle if Sessions gets enough time against him.

The shooting guard position is a push right now. Anthony Morrow is a second year player, DeShawn Stevenson is a bit passed his prime, and John Jenkins is a rookie. None, in my opinion, are better than Gerald Henderson or Ben Gordon. Morrow could explode this season, though, so don’t hold me to this.

The Hawks don’t have a true small forward on their roster, but Josh Smith and Ivan Johnson will play that spot at times next year.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeffrey Taylor will have to play great against those guys for the Bobcats to have a shot at stealing one in that series.

Again, the Hawks forwards are very good, and Smith and Johnson are much better than anyone the Bobcats can throw out at power forward.

The center position could be a fun matchup to watch when these two teams meet. Al Horford has range out the three point line, and he will certainly test Bismack Biyombo with that skill. Brendan Haywood will also have trouble going out that far, but around the rim, both Bobcats could have success against Horford and Zaza Pachulia.

Ultimately, if the Bobcats were to win one game out of their 2012/13 series with the Hawks, it would be a success. They can do it, but it would take exceptional play across the board to get the job done.
