Charlotte Bobcats: Training Camp Eve

Today is media day in Asheville, on the eve of the Charlotte Bobcats first day of training camp.

The press is sure to ask questions about the old, and the Bobcats are sure to answer with optimism for the new.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeffrey Taylor were the two best draft picks the Bobcats have made since their inception, Ben Gordon has a clean slate in Charlotte, where his expectations are low, and upside is high and Mike Dunlap, Charlotte’s new coach, has brought a certain type of youthful energy to the team we haven’t seen since, well, a long time ago.

But will all the optimism surrounding the Bobcats last? When the team finds itself on a five game losing streak in the early season, will they crumble under the weight of comparisons to last year’s team, or will they persevere and break that streak before it gets too long to overcome?

Questions like those won’t be answered until the season starts.

Questions that will be answered:

How much time have the guys voluntarily put in this off season to get better? We already know Kemba Walker and a few other guys have been in the gym relentlessly this off season, but what about the rest of the team?

What is this team going to look like on offense? On defense? We kind-of know the answer: Fast. Up-temp. Relentless. But what will the actual schemes look like? What plays will the Bobcats run? There’s no way that Summer League full-court press will carry over into the regular season, right?

We’ll know all the answers soon enough. Like everyone else, though, I’m ready for pro basketball to start.
