Charlotte Bobcats keep it close, but Memphis Grizzlies Escape TWC Arena With A Win: Game 8 recap

The Charlotte Bobcats fell back to .500 after losing to the Memphis Grizzlies 94-87 Saturday night.

Despite winning the fourth quarter 27-19, the ‘Cats could not overcome some early double digit deficits.

Kemba Walker even went on his own personal 9-0 run in that quarter and finished with 17 points (on 17 shots…), eight assists and five rebounds.

Byron Mullens led the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points, but it took him 21 shots to get there. TWENTY-ONE. He did grab nine rebounds, though, and against Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, that’s a good stat.

Speaking of those two guys, they combined for 30 points and 21 rebounds. Mullens and Brendan Haywood combined for 23 points and 14 rebounds.

Hakim Warrick came off the bench to score five points, block one shot and grab four rebounds in 10 minutes (that’s 18 points and 14.4 rebounds per 36 minutes… for what it’s worth).

Ramon Sessions and Ben Gordon had decent games off the bench. They combined for 22 points and five assists on 10-of-21 shooting.

As a team the Bobcats lost for a few reasons. Usually these guys are pretty good from the free-throw line. Against Memphis they shot just 19-28 from the stripe. If the made seven more of those shots the game would’ve went into overtime.

The ‘Cats also turned the ball over 16 times (just six times in the second half, though) and lost the (Mike Dunlap stat here) combined blocks/steals battle 17-12.

In a positive, but sad and weird twist, the Bobcats actually won the rebounding battle 46-44.

It all comes back to free-throws, though. Whereas the ‘Cats missed nine of their 28 FTs, the Grizzlies hit 30 of their 34.

The Bobcats will be back on the court Monday when they take on the Milwaukee Bucks at TWC Arena.
