Charlotte Bobcats Lose Heartbreaker to New York Knicks: Game 17 Recap

J.R. Smith hit a game winning field goal as time expired, and sunk the Bobcats chance to win a game they had stayed close in throughout. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s turnover with 7.9 seconds left gave the Knicks a chance to take the last shot and win the game, and J.R. Smith didn’t miss.

The Bobcats did what they needed to do as far as controlling Carmelo Anthony. Anthony only had 23 points, and only went 8-22 from the field, but Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton picked up the slack.

However, the real problem is the Bobcats lost the 4th quarter again. If the ‘Cats hope to get back to winning, they are going to need to start winning the 4th quarter again.

The Bobcats really did well in all facets of the game. They dominated the boards, shot well from three, and shot well from the free throw line. The thing that cost them were the turnovers, especially late in the game.

Some bright spots for the Bobcats were Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson. Byron Mullens continued to struggle posting only six points and a -13 +/-.

Gerald Henderson had 18 points, and looked like he was starting to return to form in only his second game back from injury. Henderson played 25 minutes, and will continue to work his way back.

Kemba Walker continued his good work posting 25 points and shooting over 50% from the field. Walker also took care of the ball only turning the ball over once.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist played effeciently, but he had four untimely turnovers including the one to give the Knicks the ball for the last shot.

With the loss the Bobcats dropped to 7-10, and the Knicks improved to 13-4. The Bobcats really need to get back to winning if they want to stay in the playoff hunt.

The Bobcats play next Friday at 8:30 in Milwaukee against the Bucks.
