Former Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry is expected to be considered for the Charlotte Bobcats’ head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

The Bobcats are favoring coaches with head coaching experience and presence. Bobcats President of Basketball Operations said Tuesday the franchise is looking for a coach who can be a good leader. Gentry, who grew up just an hour away from Charlotte in Shelby, NC, has local ties to the area.

Gentry was fired by the Suns in the middle of the year, after four-and-a-half seasons as the head coach. He coached the Suns to a 54-28 record in 2009-10 and a Western Confernce Finals appearance.

Aside from 2009 Gentry’s missed the playoffs in each season he was the coach of the Suns. He’s also coached the Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers. He has a career .475 winning percentage and made the postseason two times.
