Nerlens Noel In Play For The Bobcats?

With 11 days remaining, the 2013 NBA Draft is shaping up to be unpredictable. The Charlotte Bobcats have the fourth pick in the draft and it’s unclear which players will be available at their selection.

The Bobcats decision will be impacted by the route the Cleveland Cavaliers take with the first overall pick.

According to Sheridan Hoops‘ writer Chris Sheridan, the Cavaliers are leaning towards Maryland center Alex Len. Due to a stress fracture in his left ankle, Len has been unable to work out for teams.

Len will visit with the Cavaliers in the coming week, according to a report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Kentucky center Nerlens Noel was believed to be the favorite to go first. Like Len, Noel is sidelined with an injury for the draft process. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament  in February and is targeting a return by the end of the end of this year.

The Bobcats might be in play for the SEC’s Freshmen of the Year. Orlando and Washington follow the Cavaliers pick. Kansas guard Ben Mclemore and Georgetown forward Otto Porter could be the favorites to round out the top three, which would drop Noel into consideration for the Bobcats.

General manager Rich Cho has continuously reiterated the front office’s desire to improve the team’s size, defense and rebounding in the offseason. Noel wouldn’t be able to play immediately, but would bolster the Bobcats paint presence after rehabilitation.

Unless the Bobcats move out of their pick, one of Len, McLemore, Porter, or Noel is guaranteed to be available. UNLV forward Anthony Bennett and Hoosiers guard Victor Oladipo also should be on the board. Despite the legitimate concerns of depth in this year’s class, the Bobcats are in a good spot to leave the draft with a quality talent.
