Charlotte Bobcats Pursuing Al Jefferson

The Charlotte Bobcats are pursuing free agent center Al Jefferson, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Jefferson is one of the better low-post scoring big men in the league and a legitimate double-double threat. He has spent three seasons a piece in Boston, Minnesota and most recently with the Utah Jazz.

Rich Cho has said that the Bobcats need to improve their talent up front. Talk of the Bobcats making a splash in free agency spread last month and pursuing Jefferson would certainly be a surprise.

They’ve already partially addressed their size by drafting Cody Zeller. Jefferson would represent another big stride in upgrading their scoring in the paint. If the Bobcats are considering making a serious offer, then the Bobcats starting frontcourt would see a big change from last season.

Jefferson likely would be in the starting lineup, while the team would have to decide whether Zeller or Bismack Biyombo would be a better compliment for Jefferson’s inside scoring. Jefferson is able to start as a power forward or center, and has the size and length to defend the former. Jefferson averaged 17.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in 78 games last season with the Jazz.
