Summer League Day Two Recap: Zeller solid, Biyombo not so much

After an underwhelming summer league debut, Cody Zeller showed off an array of post moves, impressive athleticism and some versatility in the ‘Cats 86-80 win over Dallas Sunday night.

Zeller finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds. His most impressive stat of the night? Nine-of-nine from the free-throw line. He also hit 50 percent of his shots and turned the ball over just twice.

Now for the bad news:

Don’t get me wrong, Bismack Biyombo did not have a bad game. He just didn’t have a good one. In fact, he looked like he looks on most nights. Anemic offensively, solid on the glass and active on defense.

He grabbed seven rebounds, scored eight points and turned the ball over four times. He also missed four of his eight free-throws.

If Biyombo was not projected to be a decent part of Charlotte’s rotation this year it wouldn’t be all that distressing to watch his game develop at such a slow pace. Before long, though, Biyombo won’t just be able to be a prospect on this roster. He’s going to have to start contributing on a consistent basis.

On a more positive note, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 11 points on 100 percent shooting and his jump-shot really is improving; He’s completely removed one hitch from it, and although he still gathers himself slowly before hoisting the ball rim-ward, the overall effort looks smooth.
