Byron Mullens Nearing Deal With Clippers

Byron Mullens is nearing a two-year agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The Charlotte Bobcats decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Mullens, making him an unrestricted free agent. With the additions of Al Jefferson and Cody Zeller, Mullens’ exit from Charlotte was considered inevitable.

Mullens was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 24th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. On draft night, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for the rights to Rodrigue Beaubois and Solomon Alabi.

Mullens was used sparingly in Oklahoma City before being traded to the Bobcats in 2011 for a second round pick. He played over 2800 minutes and started 66 games for the Bobcats in two seasons. He showed a few flashes of brilliance, but did not prove to be a long-term piece for an unproductive Bobcats frontcourt.

Mullens, 24, is still young enough to improve. He averaged 10.6 points and six rebounds last season.
