Brendan Haywood Out Three Months With Stress Fracture

Center Brendan Haywood will be sidelined for at least three months with a stress fracture in his left foot, reports Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

Haywood was limited in training camp with the injury and missed the Charlotte Bobcats first preseason game Tuesday. He’s expected to have surgery that will push his season debut to early next year. Haywood missed the remainder of the 2013 season with a stress reaction in the same foot.

Haywood, a 12-year veteran, averaged 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 61 games last season. After being acquired through the amnesty provision waivers, Haywood started opening night for the Bobcats at center; one of his 17 starts. He’s under contract through 2015 for a little more than $2 million a year. His deal includes an unguaranteed $10 million salary for 2016.

Haywood likely would have been behind Josh McRoberts and Bismack Biyombo in rotation. New coach Steve Clifford has a preference for size to maximize team defense, which could make Haywood, a legit seven-footer with defense, of use to the team.
