Al Horford scored 24 points in the Atlanta Hawks 103-94 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats Monday night.
Atlanta trailed 54-46 after the first half, but outscored the Bobcats 34-16 in the third quarter on 72 percent shooting. Horford had 13 points in the quarter.
Jeff Teague had 14 points and 12 assists. Teague entered the game averaging over nine assists.
Cartier Martin added 16 points with a trio of three pointers and was a big part of the Hawks third quarter run.
Steve Clifford returned to the Bobcats sidelines after missing Saturday’s game against the New York Knicks with chest pains. Clifford was hospitalized, but released over the weekend.
Josh McRoberts led the Bobcats with 19 points and 5-8 shooting from three. McRoberts also had seven assists and six rebounds.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had 16 points, his fourth straight game of scoring in double figures. Ten of Kidd-Gilchrist’s points came in the first quarter, where the former second overall pick showed a lot of confidence offensively.
Al Jefferson had 10 points and seven rebounds in his home debut. All of Jefferson’s 10 points came in the second half after showing rust in the first half.
Jefferson returned to the starting lineup after missing five games with a bone bruise in his left ankle. He played 28 minutes, but didn’t appear to be on a minutes limit.
The Bobcats move to 3-4 on the season and will be on the road Wednesday against the Boston Celtics. The Bobcats have a number of challenging games coming up on the schedule, against projected Eastern Conference powerhouses in Miami, Chicago, Indiana and Brooklyn.
