Deng's 3 Pushes Bulls Past Bobcats 86-81

Luol Deng scored 21 points including a 3-point shot with 27 seconds left to push the Chicago Bulls to their fifth straight win and an 86-81 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats Monday.

Chicago (6-3) snapped Charlotte’s (5-6) three-game win streak on the road in a clash of two of the league’s top defensive teams .

After trailing by double digits, Charlotte finished the first half on a 21-7 run to lead Chicago 44-40 at halftime. The Bulls opened the second half on a 12-4 run and never trailed the rest of the game.

Chicago led 82-81 with less than a minute left when a double-teamed Derrick Rose found Deng, who hit a 3-pointer before the shot clock buzzer.

Gerald Henderson missed a jumper with less than 20 seconds left on the following possession and Rose hit a free throw to seal the win for Chicago.

Rose, who hit a career-high six 3-pointers Saturday against Indiana, scored five of his 12 points in the last two minutes of regulation. Rose shot 4 of 13 from the field and entered the game shooting 34 percent from the field.

Carlos Boozer scored 12 points and pulled a game-high 17 rebounds. All of Chicago’s starters scored in double digits.

Jeff Taylor led Charlotte with a career-high 20 points off the bench. Henderson had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Kemba Walker scored eight points on 3 of 14 shooting. Walker is shooting 24 percent in his last five games.

The Bobcats were again without their big free agent acquisition Al Jefferson, who sat for the third straight game with an ankle injury. Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said he’s hopeful Jefferson will play against Brooklyn Wednesday, but admitted Friday’s game against Phoenix is more probable.

Jefferson, who signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with Charlotte in the offseason, has missed eight of the Bobcats 11 games.

Bismack Biyombo had six points, four rebounds and a block in Jefferson’s absence.
