Last Friday the Charlotte Hornets hosted C.J. Fair, Glenn Robinson III, Cleanthony Early, DeAndre Daniels, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Melvin Ejim.
On Wednesday June 4th, the Charlotte Hornets will host former North Carolina Tar Heels star P.J. Hairston to a pre-draft workout. Many believe the Hornets have a strong interest in drafting Hairston with their 24th pick in the 1st round.
When the Hornets are on the clock with the 24th pick in the NBA Draft, and P.J. Hairston is still on the board, what should Charlotte do?
First of all, I will be shocked if P.J. is still on the board at 24. Getting dismissed from UNC is the reason he is this low in expert’s mock drafts. It is hard to name 24 players in this draft that are better than Hairston. In fact, you can’t tell me there are.
There might not even be 10-15 players in this draft that are better than P.J. Hairston. What is giving NBA GM’s second thoughts about him? It’s definitely not what he does on the basketball court.
It’s what he does off the court.
As I said before, P.J. was dismissed from the UNC basketball team for various reasons. First it was marijuana possession, then accepting illegal benefits, and he also got a speeding ticket. All of this during one off-season.
On the court though, P.J. Hairston is exactly what the Hornets need. He can play the 2 guard, and maybe even the 3 position in some small lineup situations. P.J. can shoot the three-pointer very well, and he is athletic and has an NBA body. Most shooters don’t have the body strength P.J. does.
If I was the Charlotte Hornets, I would even trade up to draft him. It is very likely he will not fall down to 24th, picking Hairston anywhere after 15th overall is a steal.
Here is the scouting video for P.J. Hairston, it is a lengthy video, but I highly recommend watching it.
