It has been reported that the Houston Rockets are planning to decline the option on Chandler Parsons’ contract, making him a restricted free agent this summer.
Being a restricted free agent means that the Rockets can match an offer made by another team for Chandler Parsons. The main reason why the Houston Rockets declined the option on Parsons, was to try to avoid letting him become a unrestricted free agent next year.
Rumor is that the Rockets are trying to add a 3rd star to go along with Dwight Howard and James Harden. To name names, that “star” is New York Knicks player Carmelo Anthony. Adding Carmelo to James Harden and Dwight Howard would make Houston immediate contenders for the Western Conference title, and possibly even the NBA title.
Parsons wouldn’t fit very well with that team if that were to happen. Even if it does, Houston likely wouldn’t have the cap-space anyway.
One potential destination for Chandler Parsons (if he does leave the Rockets) is the Charlotte Hornets.
Word around Charlotte is that the Hornets’ first choice would be Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson. Lance also has an expiring contract, and we are still unsure whether Indiana will resign him or not.
If the Hornets strike out on Lance Stephenson, expect them to make a push to sign Chandler Parsons.
Parsons had a great season this past year, averaging 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists per game. He also shot 37% from three-point land. In one game this season, Chandler Parsons set the record for most 3’s in a half by making 10 three-pointers in the second half! 10!
What do you think Hornets fans? Should Charlotte pursue Chandler Parsons in the off-season?
