Rod Higgins steps down as Hornets president

The Charlotte Hornets announced late Thursday night that president of basketball operations Rod Higgins has stepped down from the position. Not only is this shocking news, but it was also really weird timing, as the news was broke at 12:21 a.m., shortly after Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

Team owner Michael Jordan had this to say: “I would like to thank Rod for his seven years of dedication to this organization, Rod has been a consummate professional throughout his time with the team. Thanks to his hard work and commitment, we have an improved roster and we are poised for success in the future. Rod was of great help to me as I navigated my first four years as majority owner of this franchise. I wish him all the best.”

Michael Jordan also added “He worked alongside Charlotte general manager Rich Cho in the front office, and now Cho will assume responsibility for the team’s basketball operations.”

I was not expecting this to happen, especially with the timing. Charlotte has a bright future and they are primed to be players in free agency this off-season. If it is due to health reasons, best of wishes to Rod Higgins.
