Rodney Hood gets sick during workout with Hornets

On Tuesday the Charlotte Hornets hosted the former Duke Blue Devil Rodney Hood for a pre-draft workout. Other notable players that were present at the workout were P.J. Hairston (UNC) and Elfrid Payton (Louisiana-Lafayette).

It was the second time that P.J. Hairston has worked out for the Hornets, as he seems to be a likely candidate for Charlotte’s 24th overall pick.

Rodney Hood though could be drafted with the 9th overall pick, as he will be gone by the time it’s Charlotte’s turn to pick 24th.

Hood didn’t help his case in today’s workouts, as he got sick during them and was unable to participate in the scrimmage:

Rodney Hood averaged 16 points per game in his only season at Duke. His season high for points came against East Carolina, when he scored 30 points. One of Hood’s worst games came against Mercer in the NCAA tournament, a game in which Duke lost. Sorry to remind you of that, Duke fans. In that game Hood only managed to score 6 points, and only made 2 of his 10 shots.

There have been rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers like Rodney Hood as well, which is something to watch out for, as they have the 7th overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Here is the scouting video on Rodney Hood:

Thanks for the info but how would your crew see Hood in the Hornets lineup? Does Hood displace Henderson or MKG? I think he would play SG for us but I defer to you as to his ability to defend NBA SG’s. I think this is another McDermott pick since he probably has to play SF and will be a liability defensively like Doug?

I only like McD at 16-24.

I admittedly do not know a ton about Hood but I do believe if the Hornets are targeting him they would likely trade down from 9 or up from 24 to get him. In my opinion there are better options as far as his skill set. Stauskas and McDermott are elite shooters and 1 if not both should be available at 9.

If the Hornets do end up drafting him one way or the other, I see him more as help off the bench to provide a scoring punch. I doubt he would immediately subplant either Henderson or MKG from their starting positions right away. Also, I’m guessing he would still fit better at the small forward position for Charlotte while possibly playing at the 2 spot when Coach Clifford would want to go big.

Excellent question! Let us know of anymore you may have.

Weak – one word, how can he play with NBA player?
