Why the Hornets must resign Chris Douglas-Roberts

Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan has promised big things for the Hornets during the off-season. Jordan said he hopes to “land another super-star” like he did last season when the team signed Al Jefferson.

Names such as Lance Stephenson, Pau Gasol, Greg Monroe, and Gordon Hayward have came up as possibilities.

I don’t think any of those players are “super-stars” but they will still be a solid addition to the Charlotte Hornets. Although signing one of those players would be a great move by Charlotte, they need to keep someone they already have. Who is that player?

Chris Douglas-Roberts, or as everyone calls him, CDR.

Last season the Charlotte Bobcats were able to reach the playoffs for the second time in franchise history, but only to get swept by LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

Chris Douglas-Roberts was a big part of that success. His shooting and scoring off the bench was a big part of the team.

Look at all the great teams in the NBA, they all have shooters either starting or coming off the bench. CDR is that player for Charlotte.

Great teams also have players coming off the bench that bring energy to the team. The Miami Heat have Chris “Birdman” Andersen, the Spurs have Patty Mills, the Indiana Pacers have Lance Stephenson (who doesn’t come off the bench but he is still an energy player). Chris Douglas-Roberts does that as well.

Almost everyone in Charlotte loves CDR. They love his energy, they love his swag, and most importantly he is good at basketball too. In Game’s 3 and 4 against the Miami Heat in the playoffs, Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 31 combined points off the bench in those two games. 17 points in Game 3, and 14 points in Game 4.

CDR is also a clutch performer. We all remember his game-winning shot against the Atlanta Hawks this year:

In conclusion, if the Charlotte Hornets want to take another step next season, they need to re-sign Chris Douglas-Roberts. He is a great 3-point shooter, he brings energy off the bench, he’s clutch, and everyone loves him. He seems to love it in Charlotte as well.

CDR was a nice mid-season pick up but he is not key to the future of the hornets and shouldn’t et much more than the league minimum. CDR is not a great shooter, also his defense is below average even in Clifford’s schemes. I don’t see him helping us make the jump to a top 4 East team for the coming year. I would love to see us try to get Afflalo from the Magic, perfect trade is Hendo and #24 pick for Afflalo. Our other major need is a back up PG, Sessions mentioned wanting to return and otherwise we need to be scouring the league for a 2nd quality PG!
