The NBA Free Agency period has begun, and it has been a total chaos thus far.
Every 5 minutes or so a new rumor has started about a player, and before you know it “sources” come out with a different report. Kyrie Irving signing a contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers has been the biggest story so far.
Many are expecting a big off-season for the Charlotte Hornets. They drafted Noah Vonleh and P.J. Hairston in the NBA Draft, and a lot of hype has been placed on those two players.
Michael Jordan has said in the past that he wants to add another super-star to the Hornets to go along with Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker. Everyone in Charlotte is hoping Jordan follows through with that promise, and a lot of names have came up as possibilities.
Lance Stephenson, Chandler Parsons, Gordon Hayward, and Luol Deng are among the favorites at this point. But one of them is far more likely to join the Charlotte Hornets than the other players listed. Who is the most likely to sign with Charlotte?
Why? Well, the Indiana Pacers have said they would love to have Lance Stephenson return next season, and the Utah Jazz have said they will match any offer placed on Gordon Hayward.
Two teams planning to make offers to their own restricted free agents within next day or two: Jazz (Gordon Hayward) and Suns (Eric Bledsoe).

The Hornets aren’t rumored to be in the running for Chandler Parsons, as the Timberwolves, Lakers, Mavericks, Bulls, and the Rockets are the likely destinations for Parsons.
Luol Deng is being pursued by other teams as well, but there is something different about him that makes him coming to Charlotte more likely. His current team is not trying to get him back.
The Indiana Pacers would love to get Lance back, the Utah Jazz are planning to match any offer placed on Hayward, and the Houston Rockets are trying to get Chandler Parsons to return.
Cleveland has no interest in re-signing Luol Deng, as they appear to be rebuilding around Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins for the future. At this point, the Charlotte Hornets have not reached out to Luol Deng, but it has only been one day.
Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, Lakers, and Clippers have all reached out to Deng on the first night of free agency.
It seems signing Lance Stephenson, Gordon Hayward, Luol Deng, or Chandler Parsons might be a long-shot right now, but crazier things have happened.
Luol Deng spent his college days at Duke, so coming to Charlotte might be a coming home party for him. Deng would find himself in the starting lineup right away for a young Hornets team that is poised to be in the playoffs next season. Oh, and you get to play for the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan. That should be the sales pitch the Hornets make to Luol Deng. Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets must give Luol Deng a call.
