FIFA World Cup: Who you got? Brazil or Germany?

The popularity of soccer has grown over the past few weeks as Team USA made an unexpected deep run into the FIFA World Cup, getting to the Round of 16, losing to Belgium 2-1 in extra time.

With Team USA’s success in this year’s World Cup, the TV ratings were sky high. Almost everyone nation-wide watched USA’s match versus Belgium, and other matches against Ghana, Portugal, and Germany. Clint Dempsey set a record for scoring in the first 30 seconds of the match against Ghana, and John Brooks’ game winning goal was one to remember.

The Semi-Finals of the World Cup begin on Tuesday when Germany will be facing off against Brazil. Considering the match is in Brazil, that will be an advantage for Brazil, but that might be one of the few advantages they have.

Superstar Neymar fractured his vertebrae against Colombia, and captain Thiago Silva is suspended for the match.

It seems Dante will replace Thiago Silva in Brazil’s lineup, and Willian will take Neymar’s place, or at least try to. Both Dante and Willian are good players, but they are obviously not on the same level as Thiago Silva and Neymar.

Neymar and Thiago Silva are the heart and soul of Brazil’s team. Thiago Silva is the captain, and Neymar is the top goal-scorer and almost everyone in Brazil has his jersey.

Despite losing Neymar and Thiago Silva, Brazil is going to be tough to beat. As we mentioned before, it is very hard to beat Brazil in Brazil, as they are undefeated in 62 straight competitive home games in Brazil, last losing in 1975.  Will the home-field advantage carry Brazil past Germany? Or will losing Neymar and Thiago Silva prove to be too much?

My prediction for this match is that Germany will win 2-0. If Brazil was 100% healthy and didn’t have their captain suspended for the match, then I might change my mind, but that simply isn’t the case. The home-crowd will keep Brazil in the game for a while, but Germany will take over the game, and advance to the World Cup Final.
