FIFA World Cup Final: Germany takes on Argentina

The FIFA World Cup has always been one of the most prestigious sporting events in the entire world. This year, it has become very popular in America, especially during the United States’ improbable run to the Round of 16.

TV ratings were sky high during the United States match against Belgium, a game in which the U.S.A. lost in extra time by the score of 2 to 1. Tim Howard had a career game that day, which led to the Twitter world going crazy. The #ThingsTimHowardCouldSave hash-tag was trending and everyone was amazed with Tim Howard’s performance, despite the fact Team USA still lost.

Even though Team USA has been eliminated for a few weeks now, a lot of Americans are still fascinated by World Cup and have continued to tune in. On Saturday the 3rd place game was played between Brazil and the Netherlands, which the Dutch won 3 to 0. It was the first time in a long long time that Brazil has lost back to back home games, whether it be a competitive or a friendly.

Germany will be taking on Argentina in the final game on Sunday afternoon. Germany is the favorite for this match, especially after watching them just straight up destroy Brazil in the Semi-Finals, winning 7 to 1! Which is unheard of, especially in the FIFA World Cup Semi-Finals.

Argentina is coming off a win against the Netherlands in the semis, winning in penalty kicks. Argentina will be at a disadvantage though, as star player Angel Di Maria is doubtful for the match.

Let’s not forget that Argentina still has the best player in the world on their team in Lionel Messi. Messi will be trying to lead Argentina to their 3rd World Cup win, and their first since 1986.

Germany on the other hand was won 3 World Cups, and will be seeking their 4th championship on Sunday. Germany has not won the World Cup since 1990.

Right now Germany is favored, but I could see it going either way. My prediction is that Germany will defeat Argentina 3 to 1, with Germany winning their 4th World Cup.
