Charlotte Hornets Summer League Diary: Game 1

Dear Diary,

The dog days of summer are upon us. NBA Summer League 2014 is in full swing and Iso it’s time to take a look at the Charlotte Hornets Summer League team and explore the pros and cons associated with the performance of the Bugs out in the desert. Game 1 featured the Hornets versus the summer league undefeated Golden State Warriors. Summer league is about much more than wins and losses, so lets dig into some eye-opening performances from Game 1.

My new summer love: Josh Davis

Has a nose for ball
Keeps ball alive
Banger
Soft touch around rim
10+ rebounds a game at SDSU
Moves well without ball
Can defend
Makes a ton of hustle plays
Took 2 charges
14 pts 15 boards
Keep multiple balls alive
PJ shot selection needs serious work
Bad shot is not in this man’s vocabulary
Needs to square up and set his feet on catch and shoot situations
Can’t be loose with his handle-needs lotta work
Would like to see post up smaller guards
Noah Vonleh is a serious athlete with a live body, better with the ball than anticipated
Willing to screen
Face up game is already an asset
Aggressive, decisive
Nice feet. Should learn even more from Big Al and Coach Ewing
Nice up and under
Hesitation on post ups

Mickey McConnell looked pretty solid running the team but he is an average athlete at best
Could be more aggressive look at the rim
Crafty with ball
Good shooter

Josh Davis from SDSU is another active body with some athleticism
Has a nose for ball
Keeps ball alive
Banger
Soft touch around rim
10+ rebounds a game at SDSU
Moves well without ball
Can defend
Makes a ton of hustle plays
Took 2 charges
14 pts 15 boards
Keep multiple balls alive

Jordan Bachynski is a pretty good athlete
Got some hops
Reminds me a lil bit of Chris Birdman Andersen

1 assist at halftime
Big guys not rolling hard enough on pick and roll

Here are the highlights of the game
