Why the Hornets Must Bring Back Chris Douglas-Roberts

The Charlotte Hornets were ranked 23rd in the NBA last season in 3 point percentage. The NBA champion San Antonio Spurs were ranked 1st.

News broke on Wednesday morning that Lance Stephenson signed with the Charlotte Hornets, so that might affect the re-signing of Chris Douglas-Roberts.

In the NBA today you must have 3 point shooters to compete. It is a fact that you can’t match 3 point shots with 2 point shots and win. This is the reason you must have competent shooters in your starting line up, and coming off the bench.

Lack of three point shooting was a big reason why Charlotte had trouble holding 4th quarter leads. Teams would begin raining threes to catch up, and Charlotte was incapable of matching them.

Chris Douglas-Roberts also known as CDR brought great energy, and solid shooting off the bench. Although he only shot around 34% from 3, he was one of our better long range shooters. He helped to spread the floor for cutters, and big men down low.

He also provides great versitility, with the ability to play shooting guard or small forward. He has great size at 6’7 for a shooting guard which allows him to shoot over defenders, and has the speed to keep up with 2 guards on defense. At small forward Chris Douglas-Roberts has the ability to beat bigger, slower forwards to the hoop and finish strong. On defense he has the length, and strength to be a capable defender.

With Jeff Taylor coming off a serious injury, CDR is a great fit. Jeff Taylor was a question mark before his injury. He showed glimpses of ability but could never attain the consistency, or confidence needed to succeed in game scenarios. It is every fans dream for Jeff to become the great 3 and D prospect he’s capable of being, but there is no telling when, or if that will ever happen. If Taylor can’t recover, and improve CDR is a great insurance policy.

With the lack of attention CDR has received in free agency this offseason, he should come at a great price. Clifford has been preaching versitility, and size as things the team needs which is why I believe Chris Douglas-Roberts will be brought back. There’s also this….
