The Charlotte Hornets officially signed rookie P.J. Hairston to a contract on Friday.
P.J. Hairston, acquired in a draft day deal with the Miami Heat, signed a standard two year contract with team options for two more years. The deal will guarantee Hairston around 2 million dollars over the next two seasons. Charlotte would have the option for a third year, then a fourth year: after that Hairston would become a restricted free agent. Hairston averaged 18.3 ppg and 3.4 rpg for Charlotte’s summer league team in Las Vegas. With his long range shooting, he fulfills a key need for this team. Newly signed Lance Stephenson and incumbent starter Gerald Henderson will take most of the minutes at his position this year but his rookie friendly contract will allow him to hopefully be an important piece in the future.
P.J. Hairston joins Noah Vonleh as rookies on this year’s team. Hairston, who fell in the draft due to off the court concerns, could be a big time talent for this team. As a small market team it is imperative to hit on draft picks as they offer relatively cheap options for building a team. Welcome to the Hornets P.J.!
