Is P.J. Hairston already showing red flags?

The Charlotte Hornets originally drafted Shabazz Napier with the 24th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Only before being traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for UNC star P.J. Hairston.

For the most part, all the Charlotte Hornets fans loved that trade, as it brought the “home-town” player P.J. Hairston to Charlotte, as a majority of Hornet fans are also UNC fans, or if not, college basketball fans.

We all know that P.J. Hairston is a troublemaker. UNC fans know that firsthand, but can P.J. change in the NBA? Can he put his past behind him?

Bleacher Report doesn’t think so. In a recent article titled “NBA rookies that are already showing red flags,” Hornets rookie P.J. Hairston made that list of rookies ALREADY showing “red flags.” You can check out that article by clicking on this link.

P.J. isn’t showing red flags on the basketball court, we know that for sure. It’s his time off the court that is killing him, and what got him dismissed from UNC in the first place.

Did the Hornets make a mistake drafting (technically trading for) P.J. Hairston? Absolutely not. There wasn’t a lot of other options for Charlotte. The other option might have been keeping Napier or drafting K.J. McDaniels or Cleanthony Early, but P.J. is the best prospect out of all those players.

We all know P.J. had issues before the NBA Draft ever took place, so Charlotte drafted/traded for him knowing all of those things. P.J. has gotten into trouble after the draft, as he was involved in an altercation with a high school player during a pickup game. Reports say Hairston punched the teen twice. This is the red flag that P.J. has shown so far in his short NBA career.

Before that incident it seemed that P.J. Hairston was starting to mature. All of that talk went flying out the window as soon as everyone heard about him getting into a fight with a high school basketball player.

P.J. Hairston has a bright future ahead of him on the basketball court. But if he cannot behave off the floor, all of his talent will go to waste. None of us want to see that happen.

What do you think? Is P.J. Hairston already showing red flags? Or do you think he will mature and stay out of trouble? Let your voice be heard in the comment section below!
