Team USA survived a scare against Turkey over the weekend. The final score was a lot more convincing than the game actually was, sometimes the final score can lie.
It lied on this occasion, as this game wasn’t a 98 to 77 blowout as the final score might say. It was tied at the end of the 1st quarter at 16, and Turkey held a 40-35 halftime lead over Team USA.
Team USA woke up from that and had a 31 point third quarter, taking a 6 point lead heading into the last quarter of the game. In the 4th quarter, Team USA outscored Turkey 32 to 17, winning the game 98-77.
Kenneth Faried led the team in scoring with 22 points, and he also had 8 rebounds to go along with his 22 points. Anthony Davis and James Harden also had big games. Davis had 19 points(all in second half) and James Harden had 14 points and 7 assists.
Turkey wasn’t predicted to give Team USA that big of a scare. Turkey had one notable NBA player in Omer Asik, who had 6 points and 8 rebounds against the United States.
Coach K’s Team USA squad will be taking on New Zealand on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. eastern time. You can watch the game on ESPN2.
New Zealand lost their last game against the Dominican Republic 76 to 63. New Zealand shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for Team USA, but I guess you never know.
Thomas Abercrombie and Kirk Penney are two players on New Zealand to look out for. They led the team in scoring against the Dominican Republic. Abercrombie scored 22, and Penney scored 16.
We all expect Team USA to defeat New Zealand, but who will lead the United States in scoring? My prediction is that James Harden will score the most points for Team USA against New Zealand, and Derrick Rose will play a bigger role in the game. Against Turkey, Rose only scored 2 points, and was 0-4 from the field.
