Charlotte Hornets Snap Seven-Game Skid With Victory Over Brooklyn, 111-107

The Charlotte Hornets put an end to their seven-game losing streak as they squeaked past the Nets in the final moments at home.

The Charlotte Hornets (24-28) were able to defeat the Brooklyn Nets (9-43) as they finally snapped their losing streak that was at seven games. An all-around team effort carried the home team as seven Hornets’ scored in double-figures. Jeremy Lamb and Marco Belinelli gave the team a boost off the bench as this game resulted in the Nets’ 10th consecutive loss.

Cody Zeller sat out once again as he missed his seventh straight game with a quad contusion. Frank Kaminsky started in his place but he did not shoot well in this one. Ramon Sessions will be a regular on the inactive list for the next four to six weeks as he recovers from knee surgery.

Turning Point

Charlotte almost led wire to wire and after taking the lead with 9:21 left in the first quarter, they never looked back. A 12-0 run in the first gave the Hornets a 14-4 lead and they led for the rest of the game after that. While the Nets did make it interesting in the closing minutes, the home team played just well enough to hang on at the end.

Who Stepped Up

Despite only shooting 4-20 from the field, Kemba Walker led the Hornets as he finished with 17 points and five assists. Marco Belinelli added 17 points off the bench as he made a number of clutch free throws down the stretch. Nicolas Batum chipped in with 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Jeremy Lamb scored 16 points to go along with seven boards with the second unit. Marvin Williams ended the game with 14 points and nine rebounds. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had a solid night with 14 points and seven boards. Frank Kaminsky recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Not to mention, that he also had five assists.

The Nets were led by Bojan Bogdanovic who scored a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds. Brook Lopez helped out with 20 points and five boards while Joe Harris scored 12 off of the bench. Isaiah Whitehead (11 points) and Trevor Booker (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

"Quick Stings"

  • Kaminsky recorded the second double-double of his career. (First this season.)
  • Seven Hornets scored in double-figures.
  • Charlotte’s now 2-12 without Cody Zeller.
  • Jeremy and Marco carried the bench with 33 of the second unit’s 37 total points.
  • Ray McCallum still has not made an appearance with the team.

With the win, the Hornets finish their season series against the Nets with a 3-1 record. Dating back to last season, Charlotte’s now 7-1 against Brooklyn. Former Hornet, Jeremy Lin, only played in one game against his team from last year.

Next: Hornets Should Trade for Wilson Chandler

In their next game, the Charlotte Hornets will host James Harden and the Houston Rockets. This will be the second and final meeting between the two sides this season. Hopefully, Steve Clifford’s side has some momentum heading into that one after they finally snapped their losing skid.
