Seven Players Score in Double-Figures as the Charlotte Hornets Defeat the Nets

The Charlotte Hornets put an end to their seven-game losing streak with a win against the Brooklyn Nets. Seven players scored in double figures.

The Charlotte Hornets began a four-game homestand with an 111-107 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. This game was different than the team’s recent performances. Charlotte truly spent the whole night in the lead against the Nets. Seven players ended up in double figures in the points category and they played well all-around.

The player of the game is Head Coach Steve Clifford. While this may be a wild choice and not a player, Coach Clifford got his team ready for a four-game homestand. Coach Clif, despite losing seven straight games, provided enthusiasm for his team and coached his players well in this game as he switched up his rotations a bit. It was also tough choosing from a group of seven players who averaged 15.2 points altogether.

Player Grades

Kemba Walker (A-)

In the win, Kemba started off very slowly in the scoring category. Throughout the game, Walker never gave up and kept playing very aggressive, despite shooting twenty percent from the field. We can expect Kemba to get back to his old self as the all-star break draws closer.

Nicolas Batum (A-)

The game started with some great shooting from the starting shooting guard. Nic showed off his playmaking ability with some nice passing and exciting dunks. Batum played very aggressive in this game to assure a Hornets’ victory. Nicolas played confidently in this game, as he stated “We will win this” before the game and made good on that promise.

Frank Kaminsky (B+)

12 PTS 5 AST 11 REBS

Everyone may get mad at Kaminsky because of his missed shots. In the end, he played a solid game and finished in double figures. He played well on the offensive side of the ball and ended up being the only player with a double-double. For his poor defensive reputation, Frank played adequate defense on Brook Lopez.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (B+)

14 PTS 2 AST 7 REBS

MKG had a great shooting night as he shot 58% from the field. He also played great defense. We need Kidd-Gilchrist to continue his excellent defense and putback/cuts to the rim on the offensive end.

Marvin Williams (A-)

14 PTS 0 AST 9 REBS

Marvin played some great basketball as he was one rebound short of a double-double. He provided a great offensive punch and threw down a posterizing dunk. He shot 54% from the field and also added two blocks. While Williams did not make any of his highlight threes, he was able to get the job done in the paint and helped carry the team in the second half.

Miles Plumlee (C)

4 PTS 1 AST 2 REBS

This was Miles Plumlee’s home debut. He offered some interesting minutes off the bench. He made two of three shots, while one of the shots was a dunk that came from an alley-oop pass from Brian Roberts. It seems like Plumlee is starting to settle down and is catching on the Hornets’ style of play.

Marco Belinelli (A-)

17 PTS 0 AST 3 REBS

What is there to say about Marco? He was a playmaking machine in this one. The Italian made some acrobatic shots once again. When it came down to the wire at the end, Marco made critical free throws that allowed the hornets to hold onto their lead. Belinelli continues to provide consistent shooting off the bench.

Brian Roberts (D+)

0 PTS 2 AST 1 REBS

Brian Roberts had an underwhelming night. He provided little playmaking while Kemba was out but was able to set the team up on the offensive end. As a backup to Walker, Brian needs to become more aggressive and start becoming an offensive force. After two games, it has become clear that maybe Ray McCallum deserves a shot until Ramon Sessions returns.

Jeremy Lamb (A-)

16 PTS 0 AST 7 REBS

Lamb looked like his old self. Coming off the bench, Jeremey was a straight-up playmaker in the Hornet’s win against the Brooklyn Nets. He shot the ball very well and provided Charlotte with good production off the bench. His scoring in the paint and off the dribble was at his peak in this one.

After the Charlotte Hornets win against the Brooklyn Nets, they must continue this style of basketball and keep their turnovers to a minimum. They will look to add another game to their winning streak as they take on the Houston Rockets at home on Thursday.
