Welcome to Buzz City Beat, Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the latest and best articles from around the internet about the Charlotte Hornets.

After an epic fourth quarter collapse to the Toronto Raptors, the Charlotte Hornets dropped their fourth consecutive game as they fell in their last outing before the All-Star break. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the organization’s value, Marco Belinelli giving Kemba Walker advice for the three-point shootout and Frank Kaminsky setting a new career-high in points.

FORBES: Hornets’ Value

“The Hornets went into the 2016-17 season closing in on 11,000 season ticket holders, more than double what the team had when Michael Jordan purchased the franchise in 2010. But the Hornets still face some challenges: the team’s average attendance last season (17,458) ranked 18th in the NBA, and their average rating on Fox Sports Southwest was 0.87, fourth-lowest in the NBA. The team also took a hit when the NBA pulled the 2017 NBA All-Star Game from Charlotte in response to the state’s passage of HB2, which limits protections for LGBT individuals.” (Forbes.com)

Forbes ranked Charlotte’s franchise as the 28th most valuable team in the NBA. They list the team’s worth at $780 million which is no small number but it scales in comparison to the New York Knicks‘ worth of $3.3 billion. The Hornets are only ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the New Orleans Pelicans. At least they are on the way up as their value rose 4% from last season.

Belinelli’s Advice for Kemba in Three-Point Contest

“Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Marco Belinelli knows a thing or two about winning the NBA’s Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend, having defeated Washington Wizards sharpshooter Bradley Beal in 2014. Belinelli admitted he was nervous when he took center stage in 2014. “Just let it fly” — the motto for every shooter who has ever picked up a basketball — was the best advice he could give to Walker.” (ESPN.com)

Walker is set to be the fourth Hornet to compete in the NBA’s three-point contest at All-Star weekend as he makes his appearance this season. It will be interesting to see how Kemba does in the shootout because of his shooting style as he can shoot well off the dribble and in catch and shoot situations. Charlotte hasn’t seen a player in the contest since 1998 and they have never had a winner so Kemba could make history by winning.

Kaminsky Sets New Career-High in Scoring

“Charlotte Hornets center Frank Kaminsky scored a career-high 27 points on Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors. He drew the start at center and played 37 minutes, shooting 11-for-18 from the field, knocking down 3-for-7 from three-point range. He took the most shots of any player on the Hornets in the team’s 90-85 loss.” (FanRagSports.com)

What sophomore slump? Frank has seemingly turned things around this season since getting more playing time and starting with Cody Zeller out. It isn’t a result of more playing time but because of him playing at center instead of power forward. Kaminsky may be at a disadvantage on defense and on the boards but he can take advantage of bigger five’s on the offensive end of the court. It’s pretty clear that he’s better at center than at power forward at the NBA level.
