Ever wonder who Kemba Walker‘s favorite player is? Well, the Charlotte Hornets’ all-star recently revealed that exact information.

In a recent interview with ESPN Radio, Kemba Walker talked about being a first-time All-Star in New Orleans this season. During the short interview, the Charlotte Hornets‘ point guard revealed that his favorite player is Carmelo Anthony. It is a bit of a surprise since it isn’t a legendary/retired player but rather a fellow comrade in the league today.

Kemba said that “Melo’s been one of his favorite players for years.” He also stated that “When he was at Syracuse, I was in junior high school and he had an amazing year.” The host then joked that Walker should tell Anthony to waive his no-trade clause to join the Hornets.

For the first time in his career, Charlotte’s star point guard will get the chance to play alongside his favorite player as him and Melo both made the Eastern Conference All-Star team this season. Walker was named as a reserve while Anthony made it in as a last second injury replacement for Kevin Love. The New York Knicks‘ forward got lucky this year but he has now made it for the 10th straight season and for the 12th total time in his career.

More from Swarm and Sting

This is only a bit strange because most current players name legends who have retired long ago like Michael Jordan, Bill Russell and Patrick Ewing as their favorite players. But not Kemba. He broke that trend and named a fellow current player who is only six years older than him. Walker had no shame in admitting his respect and admiration for Melo.

During the interview, he also talked about being the first point guard from New York to make an All-Star game since Stephon Marbury in 2003. Kemba spoke on All-Star weekend being moved from Charlotte and how important the festivities are for him and his family. In the short five-minute interview, Walker covered a number of topics.

While Walker is having the best season of his career, Anthony is still putting up good numbers in New York despite the turmoil surrounding the franchise. Being from NYC, Kemba probably admires Carmelo for playing with the Knicks for so many years.

It would be pretty interesting to see Carmelo and Kemba both lace them up for the purple and teal. Maybe if they play well together in the All-Star game, Anthony might think about wanting to join the Charlotte Hornets. That probably won’t happen but at least Walker gets to play alongside his favorite player.
