Buzz City Beat is a daily roundup of the latest and greatest news/stories from around the web surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

As the February 23rd trade deadline approaches, the Charlotte Hornets continue to get rest before the second half of the regular season starts. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the best case trade deadline scenario for the team, Charlotte’s seeking more for their roster and what’s wrong with the Hornets.

Best Case Trade Deadline Scenario

“The Charlotte Hornets still need help when Kemba Walker isn’t playing. But the Hornets could capitalize on a team engaging in an all-out fire sale by making a move to acquire Darren Collison from the Sacramento Kings. At this point, it shouldn’t take much to get Collison.” (BleacherReport.com)

The proposed trade scenario is Darren Collison to Charlotte for Jeremy Lamb and a 2018 second round pick to the Sacramento Kings. That wouldn’t be too much for the Hornets to give up for a solid backup point guard. After missing out on Lou Williams, Collison might be the next best option on the trading block this season. It’s clear Charlotte needs an upgrade at that spot because Ramon Sessions has not cut it this year.

Charlotte’s Seeking More for Their Roster

“But a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking insists that is not in the plan, and that the Hornets will forgo tanking in order to make a push for the playoffs. League sources said that Charlotte has been actively seeking help at backup point guard—especially a scorer off the bench” (SportingNews.com)

The first half of this article focuses on Frank Kaminsky and his growth/development this season. Steve Clifford wanted the sophomore big man to be more aggressive and it has worked. The second half of the piece focuses on the team looking to upgrade their roster before the trade deadline. Despite rumors that they might tank, this article makes it clear that Charlotte wants to win this year.

What’s Wrong With the Hornets?

“There is something wrong with the Hornets. The team is in the middle of the pack at best. They could sneak into the playoffs as an 8th seed and then likely have to play the Cavaliers in the first round. Many thought Charlotte could possibly take the next leap, but their flaws are too fatal for them. They are relying too much on stars Walker and Batum. Furthermore, the loss of key role players through free agency (Lin and Lee) and injury (Zeller) have really hurt them.” (16WinsARing.com)

There are a number of minor reasons as to why the Charlotte Hornets are struggling. They do not have one glaring weakness but the lack of scoring help for Kemba Walker is one important one. That is why the team’s looking to acquire a reliable scorer.
