Welcome to Buzz City Beat, Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the latest articles from around the web about the Charlotte Hornets.

The Charlotte Hornets will look to snap their two-game skid as they take on the Indiana Pacers. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at Camp Rhodes sending 175 students to a game, no timetable for Miles Plumlee‘s return and the team’s undisciplined defense.

Camp Sends 175 Students to Hornets’ Game

"A group of 175 Cleveland County elementary and middle school students were invited through the camp to play a basketball tournament on the Charlotte Hornets’ home court at the Spectrum Center on Saturday afternoon. Camp Coach Rhodes is a non-profit organization that aims to reach children with the emphasis of encouragement, education and motivation"

This was a great experience for the students involved, The article illustrates how after the tournament, the students and their parents had the opportunity to meet with three top-tier Hornets’ executives to learn about the importance of continued education. While this may have only been one game, it was probably very beneficial for children.

It was also noted that it was many of the students’ first NBA game so that was an exciting experience within itself. Credit to the non-profit Camp Rhodes who works to help all of these students and make a positive impact in their lives.

No Timetable for Miles Plumlee

"Plumlee (calf) went through on-court activities Tuesday but remains without a timetable for a return. It’s a step in the right direction for the big man, but it remains unclear when he’ll be able to return to full-speed work. A second-degree right calf strain has kept Plumlee out of action for more than a month, but the hope is that he’ll be back on the court within the next couple of weeks."

Plumlee only got through four full games with the Hornets before suffering a calf strain in his fifth outing with the team. He was originally set to be out for around two weeks. About three weeks later, there is still no timetable for his return. Charlotte gave up quite a bit to get Miles and they were hoping that he would help their push for the playoffs but he just hasn’t been available for them.

The team has had enough injuries this season and this one just piles on top of an already disappointing year. As they say, the best ability is availability. Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of things to come for Plumlee next season.

Familiar Story of Undisciplined Defense

"“There’s a big difference between tuning a coach out and not buying totally into what he’s saying,” Clifford said. “One thing we’ve done here for three years is we’ve played hard, we’ve been hard to play against and we’ve never beat ourselves. That’s not our team this year. We’re not the most hard to play against and we do beat ourselves.”"

For the last three years, Clifford has been able to get the most out of his teams by playing tough defense. This year has been the first season where the importance that he places on defense hasn’t been well received by the players. Whether it be because his message has gotten old or if the players just aren’t responding the same, the Charlotte Hornets’ poor play has been a direct result of their defense.
