Welcome to Buzz City Beat, a daily roundup of the latest and greatest news and stories from around the web about the Charlotte Hornets.

The Toronto Raptors advanced to the second round of the playoffs after knocking off the Milwaukee Bucks in six games while the San Antonio Spurs did the same to the Memphis Grizzlies. Washington, Boston and Utah will all be looking to advance tonight as well. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at one preseason game being announced, Thomas Davis wore a Charlotte Hornets‘ suit to the NFL Draft and Kobe Bryant is going to auction an Air Jordan set that Michael Jordan gifted him.

Preseason Game Against the Miami Heat Announced (NBCMiami.com)

"Over a week will go by until Miami’s next home game and that will come against the Charlotte Hornets on October 9th. It is likely that the Heat will play at least one preseason game on the road between the home contests. The game with Charlotte will begin at 7:30 p.m."

This announcement comes about six months in advance but we can already start looking ahead to next season. With the disappointing year that Charlotte just had, the next preseason can’t come soon enough. They have faced off against their divisional rivals in the Miami Heat for each of the last two preseasons and in three of the past four years. They are 2-1 in those three outings.

The Hornets have played between 6-8 preseason games over the past five years so it is safe to say that at least five more games will be added to their preseason schedule. If you’re a Charlotte fan that’s going to be in Florida on October 9th, plan accordingly.

"Decided to go with the @hornets colors tonight to announce our 1st Rd pick. @mrs.td58 always matches my swag!"

Thomas Davis is awesome. Not only does he sit courtside at a number of Hornets’ games but he even represented the team during the NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers’ linebacker announced the eighth overall pick in the first round for his team. They ended up selecting running back Christian McCaffrey out of Stanford University.

The bigger story though is how he wore a purple and teal suit and how he shouted out the Hornets on IG as well. Charlotte should think about releasing a Thomas Davis’ bobblehead like they did with Cam Newton this past season.

Kobe to Auction Air Jordan Set That MJ Gifted Him Last Season (SoleCollector.com)

"Michael Jordan gave Kobe Bryant a sneaker sendoff last year, commemorating the Black Mamba’s retirement by gifting him a huge set of exclusive Air Jordans. Apparently they are Bryant’s no longer though—later this month, an auction house is putting the full set of retros from 1 to 30 up for sale."

I understand why Kobe is selling this collection because who really needs or wants 30 pairs of shoes that they will probably never wear? Plus, at least a portion of the proceeds is being donated to a good cause. Any shoe collector would be all over this but they will cost a pretty penny as the estimated price of the shoes is $200,000.
