Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the best articles from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

The Utah Jazz knocked the Los Angeles Clippers out of the postseason after a Game Seven win while the Celtics took a 1-0 lead over the Wizards in their second round series. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at a crazy stat from the 2016-17 season, Charlotte Hornets‘ regular season awards and the team holding camps this summer.

Crazy Stat From the 2016-17 Season (Deadspin.com)

"Harden and Westbrook, who finished with the second-most turnovers this season, combined for 902 turnovers; the entire Charlotte Hornets team committed 942 total turnovers."

Two players almost combined for as many turnovers as the whole Hornets’ team. That is pretty crazy. Granted that both James Harden and Russell Westbrook had the ball in their hands an incredible amount of time but they still turned the ball over at a very high rate. As for Charlotte, they are known for taking care of the ball under Steve Clifford.

Looking at the Hornets, Nicolas Batum led the team with 194 turnovers (18th in the NBA) and Kemba wasn’t far behind him with a total of 168 (36th in the NBA) (NBA.com). Still, those numbers are low when compared to Harden and Westbrook. Nic and Walker only averaged 2.5 and 2.1 turnovers per game while the two MVP candidates averaged 5.7 and 5.4. (NBA.com)

Charlotte’s Regular Season Awards (TheWinningTake.com)

"Recently, the Charlotte Hornets ended a disappointing season with a record of 36 wins and 46 losses. With the disappointment, there are still positives that can be taken out of the year."

Of course, Kemba Walker is your MVP. That was a given but Frank Kaminsky was the Most Improved while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was the Biggest Disappointment and Marco Belinelli was the Best Newcomer. I would agree with all of these except with Ramon Sessions being the Biggest Disappointment over MKG.

I would also add that Kidd-Gilchrist was the Defensive Player of the Year for the Hornets while Jeremy Lamb would win the Sixth Man Award for the team. Like the article says, there weren’t a lot of positives but Kemba, Frank and Marco were a few bright spots for Charlotte.

Hornets to Hold Camps This Summer (NBA.com)

"Hornets Hoops Summer Camps feature stations, drills, competitive games, contests, special guest speakers, a Hornets ticket, and exclusive Hornets gear! Join the Hornets this summer for a safe, fun, and memorable experience!"

Next: Hornets in for a Quiet Free Agency Period

The team will hold a total of 22 camps this summer from June 5th to August 17th in a number of different areas. They are for children ages 7-14 and while it will cost a pretty penny, it will also be an experience that will stick for a lifetime. The camp will include a number of drills that are run by qualified coaches. If you know a child that loves basketball, this would be awesome for them.
