Three members of the Charlotte Hornets’ Developmental League affiliate have been selected to participate in Eighth Annual Elite Mini Camp.

The NBA D-League recently announced a list of 40 players that are scheduled to attend the Eighth Annual Elite Mini Camp on May 8th and 9th. Among the players selected, three are from the Charlotte Hornets‘ system as members of the Greensboro Swarm. Cat Barber, Perry Ellis and Rasheed Sulaimon were picked to take part in the camp.

Only one D-League team had more players selected with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants having four prospects scheduled to appear. The Westchester Knicks, the Northern Arizona Suns and the Erie Bayhawks all each have three players selected as well. That puts the Swarm in some elite company by having three players picked.

Former Charlotte Hornets’ player, Ray McCallum, is also scheduled to take part representing the Grand Rapids Drive. He didn’t appear in a game with the team this season despite being signed to two 10-day contracts in the middle of the year. Still, he is one of the top prospects in the D-League.

More from Swarm and Sting

The camp will be used for NBA scouts to evaluate the top talent at the D-League level. Before the draft prospects get their turn to put their skills on display, will get their chance in Chicago.

Cat Barber appeared in 19 games for Greensboro after being acquired in a mid-season trade that involved Aaron Harrison. The point guard averaged 18.8 points per game, 5.5 assists per game and 2.8 rebounds per game with the team. At only 22-years old, the former NC State player is still considered a prospect and his play with the Swarm showcased why he deserves a spot in the camp.

As for Perry Ellis, he spent the entire D-League season with Greensboro and appeared in all 50 games for the Swarm. He managed to average 9.7 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game in 22.4 minutes per game. Despite most people thinking he’s 50, the big man is only 23-years old and still a top prospect as he recorded three double-doubles.

Rasheed Sulaimon played in all but one game this past D-League season for the Swarm. The 23-year old averaged 13.3 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists per game. Despite being the eighth leading scorer on the Swarm, the Duke/Maryland product managed to contribute in a number of ways.

This past season was the first year out of college for all three of these players.

The Greensboro Swarm must be doing something right in terms of player development with three of their guys being selected. Credit to the Charlotte Hornets’ organization and Noel Gillespie’s coaching staff for doing such a great job. Hopefully, Barber, Ellis and Sulaimon all impress.
