For the third consecutive offseason, the Charlotte Hornets will participate in the Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League.

The Charlotte Hornets have announced that they will be playing in the 2017 Orlando Pro Summer League. (NBA.com) A total of eight teams will participate in the event while Charlotte will play in five games. The league will start on July 1st and run until July 6th.

Along with the Hornets, the Orlando Magic, the Dallas Mavericks, the Detroit Pistons, the Indiana Pacers, the Miami Heat, the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder will all take part. Two of the Queen City’s divisional rivals will be there in Orlando, who is hosting the event, and Miami. Only two Western Conference teams in Dallas and OKC will face off against a large Eastern Conference contingent.

Charlotte will open up against the Heat on July 1st. They will then take on the Pacers (July 2nd), the Thunder (July 4th) and the Pistons (July 5th). Following those four games, the Hornets opponent for the fifth and final game will be determined by how well they play and also by a points system.

More from Swarm and Sting

Briante Weber, Treveon Graham and Johnny O’Bryant have already been announced as participants for the Hornets’ summer league team. These three prospects will be looking to not only improve their games but also show that they deserve a spot on an NBA roster next season.

Once the draft is complete, more players will be named to Charlotte’s summer league team. Their first and second round picks will likely play along with a number of undrafted free agents. A few players from the Greensboro Swarm may also get a look.

If a player stands out, they could definitely earn a contract or a training camp invite. Mike Tobey performed well last summer for the Hornets and was brought into their training camp and later played for their D-League team.

After finishing in fifth place last year and ninth the year before that, Charlotte will be looking to have a better showing this time around. Weber, Graham and O’Byrant are the three big named to keep an eye on for the team. Hornets’ (summer) basketball is set to return on July 1st.
