Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the best articles from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

The team held their first summer league practice as players get ready to make the trip to Orlando. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the Charlotte Hornets‘ Summer League roster, Malik Monk‘s ankle injury and Kemba Walker winning the NBA’s Sportsmanship Award.

Hornets announce Summer League roster (NBA.com)

"The Charlotte Hornets announced today the team’s 15-man roster for the 2017 Orlando Mountain Dew Pro Summer League beginning July 1. Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas will serve as head coach of the team’s summer league squad."

Their 15-man roster includes five players who are under contract with the Hornets, a number of undrafted rookies and free agents. Briante Weber, Johnny O’Bryant, Treveon Graham and Dwayne Bacon will have the most to prove during the summer league as they could secure their spot on the team’s regular season roster. Associate head coach, Stephen Silas, will be the head coach of Charlotte’s summer league team.

One intriguing player on the roster is Rasheed Sulaimon. The former McDonald’s All-American spent last year with the Greensboro Swarm after appearing in four preseason game with the Hornets. Another interesting prospect is Przemek Karnowski out of Gonzaga. Although he didn’t have great stats in college, he could be an option for Charlotte to bring into their training camp and to play for their D-League team.

Malik Monk to miss summer league with left ankle injury (NBA.com)

"Malik Monk will miss the Hornets Summer League Training Camp in Charlotte and is doubtful to participate in the team’s games at the Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League with a sprained left ankle suffered during the draft workout process."

Monk will be out 2-4 with the ankle sprain and that will hold him out of the Orlando Pro Summer League which will be from July 1st to July 7th. Although the first round pick will be ready for training camp and pre-season, it would’ve been great to see him in summer league. Steve Clifford even noted that Malik was going to play some point guard in Orlando. Those plans will have to be put on hold.

This injury should give more of a spotlight to fellow rookie Dwayne Bacon. This also assures that Monk won’t suffer an unforeseen injury in summer league. At least the left ankle injury isn’t serious and hopefully, this is the only injury setback for Malik during his rookie season.

Kemba receives Sportsmanship Award (WFmyNews.com)

"The NBA announced today that Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker is the recipient of the Joe Dumars Trophy presented to the 2016-17 NBA Sportsmanship Award winner."

Next: Malik Monk was an absolute steal at No. 11

Charlotte’s all-star point guard became the first player in team history to win the Sportsmanship Award. He beat out DeMarre Carroll, Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, Shaun Livingston and Anthony Davis for the honor as Kemba’s peers voted him as the player who showed integrity and fair play throughout the season. Congratulations Mr. Walker!
