Should the Hornets be a Publicly Owned NBA Team?
As you may be aware, the Green Bay Packers are the only non-profit, publicaly owned professional sports team in major American leagues. Given the Hornets’ ownership situation, I was curious to see how public ownership could apply to the Hornets. Note: Current NFL rules limit a team to 32 owners with one owner having a minimum 30% stake in the team (20% if a family member owns another 10%). The Packers situation was grandfathered in. I’m unsure of the NBA’s ownership rules (I tried to see if there are any but couldn’t find them), but I’d be willing to bet [...]
As I’m sure you’re aware, Hornets assistant coach Mike Malone will be heading to the Golden State Warriors next season. Obviously, this negatively impacts the Hornets since Malone was instrumental in turning the 22nd ranked defense into the 8th. But is it going to have a huge impact next season? And how will it affect Chris Paul? Let’s do this…
The Hornets Offseason According to NBA2K11
While James takes a very good, realistic look at what the Hornets might do this offseason, I was curious what NBA2K11 would tell us. As I fired up the Xbox360, I had two scenarios. 1) See what I could do as GM. 2) Let the game simulate the entire offseason and see what happens. For both plans we start at the end of the playoffs, have traded away the Hornets first round pick and will simulate the entire 2011-12 season. What were the results? Let’s do this…
What’s Up With The MVP Vote?
This NBA’s MVP vote this season reminded of the 2002 Heisman trophy. Carson Palmer of USC won the award that year and the vote wasn’t close. But was he the best player that year? Arguments could have been made for the runner up and third place finisher that year (Brad Banks and Larry Johnson if you’re curious), but ehh, the voters made the right choice. Palmer was the best player on one of the best teams and finished with a showcase game when he lit up Notre Dame. (Side Note: I was at that USC v. Notre Dame game.) His [...]
Hornets 90, Lakers 106: Down But Not Out
There are a lot of reasons this game was lost: turnovers, referees, rebounds, second chance points. All in all it was a bad game for the Hornets. Yes, they came out firing and built a 9 point lead after the first quarter. But once the second period started, the Lakers regrouped, went on a large run, and effectively killed any chance the Hornets had. The rebounding was terrible tonight. For a Hornets team which was great on the defensive glass all season, they cannot allow a team to grab 15 offensive rebounds–especially since the Hornets only brought down 3. The [...]
Well hello there, everyone! I’m glad to see that you’ve joined us. I’m sorry about the lack of updates, so how about some pictures to make it up to you? Awesome. I’m not sure how much in depth analysis I’ll be going into, but there is only one way to find out. Let’s do this…
Lakers 87, Hornets 78: Hornets come back down to Earth.
The Los Angeles Lakers beat the New Orleans Hornets tonight 87-78 to tie their first round series 1-1. Kobe Bryant had a quiet game (he reached double digits late in the 4th quarter) but Andrew Bynum led the Lakers in the first half and Lamar Odom closed out the game for the home team. Chris Paul had 20 points and 9 assists but was doubled teamed most of the night as the Lakers tried to prevent him from having another monster game. Despite the score, this was a close game. The Hornets had their chances but failed to convert tonight [...]
Want to Relive Chris Paul’s Monster Night?
Wow. I think that sums up how every Hornets fan is feeling right now. After a week of pretty much everyone in the media discrediting the Hornets chances against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Hornets came out today and stole home court advantage with a 109-100 win. Going into the game tonight the Hornets looked overmatched at every position except point guard. The team took full advantage of that matchup as Chris Paul shifted into fifth gear and went off tonight. The rest of team played about as well as you could ask with Aaron Gray and Jarrett Jack stepping [...]
Well hello there, everyone! Thanks for joining us here at Swarm and Sting for the end of the regular season. Tonight the New Orleans Hornets were whupped in the second half by the Dallas Mavericks. The first half was good but unfortunately in the second both the offense and defense disappeared. For a half everything looked good. The defensive rotations were quick and the Hornets offense was hitting everything. Marco Belinelli in particular had his shot going and for one possession played strong defense on Dirk Nowitzki. Recently, the Hornets offense has show signs of a strong pulse and tonight you could see [...]
