Welcome to Buzz City Beat, Swarm and Sting’s daily roundup of the latest and best news about the Charlotte Hornets from around the web.

The trade deadline is here and the Charlotte Hornets have a few options that they could make before the 3:00 p.m. EST mark is upon us. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at if a trade is an answer for the team, Miles Plumlee‘s injury and are Nick Young and/or Trey Burke trade options?

Nick Young and/or Trey Burke Trade Options for Charlotte?

“ESPN sources say his Lakers are seeking a second-round pick for Nick Young.” (ESPN/ Marc Stein)

“Sources: Washington Wizards are exploring the trade market for veteran point guard Trey Burke and are asking for a second-round draft pick.” (Basketball Insiders/ Michael Scotto)

Both of these role players could be useful for the Hornets off the bench. At the small asking price of only a second round pick, these deals could easily be completed. Charlotte could use a backup point guard like Burke and to a lesser degree, a scoring guard in SwaggyP as they already have Jeremy Lamb and Marco Belinelli. These two players will likely be moved before the deadline but where they land will be the question. Maybe Rich Cho can sneak in and grab one or both.

Is a Trade the Answer for the Hornets?

“The bottom line: Even if the Hornets can pull off a trade before 3 p.m. Thursday, it won’t be a blockbuster. The cavalry isn’t coming. And until the Hornets can squeeze more out of the guys on the current roster, the wins won’t be, either.” (CharlotteObserver.com)

If Charlotte ends up pulling off any sort of trade, it will be one for a role player or two. Even though they could use a big shift in the form of a star player, that just isn’t realistic or likely. The current roster isn’t bad but they must play better for the remainder of the season if they want to make the playoffs.

Miles Plumlee’s Calf Injury

“Charlotte Hornets’ center Miles Plumlee has been diagnosed with a second degree calf strain. As a result of the injury to his right leg, the veteran big man will now be re-evaluated in two weeks.” (FanRagSports.com)

With Plumlee now ruled out for a considerable amount of time and Cody Zeller‘s return unclear, the Hornets are without their two top options at center for the foreseeable future. That means more minutes for Frank Kaminsky and Mike Tobey going forward. Kaminsky has played well as the starter so hopefully, that trend continues.
