Welcome to Buzz City Beat, Swarm and Sting’s daily roundup of the latest and best news surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

The Charlotte Hornets are coming off of a heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in an overtime thriller of a game. In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at Briante Weber ready to face new challenges, where the team goes from here and Frank Kaminsky taking advantage of starting role.

Weber Ready for New Challenges

“I look forward to bringing maximum energy to this team,” Weber said. “I’m going to do whatever this team needs for us to win. I will bring some grit, toughness and a pitbull mentality to this team.” (Medium.com/ Oliver Maroney)

NBA writer, Oliver Maroney, got a chance to quickly talk to the newest member of the Hornets about his 10-day contract with the team. Briante Weber was quickly scooped up by Charlotte after his second 10-day deal with the Golden State Warriors ended. The article includes quotes from Weber and his thoughts about the new challenges he will face with his new team.

While Brian Roberts has filled in as the backup point guard behind Kemba Walker, the Hornets are in need of someone who can bring more off the bench. Briante has a chance to take over the backup role with Ramon Sessions out.

Kaminsky Taking Advantage of Starting Role

“With the team struggling and Williams regressing to the mean from his career season last year, it bears asking the question that whenever Zeller does return, does coach Steve Clifford insert Frank into the starting five?” (HoopsHabit.com)

Max Seng breaks down Frank’s outstanding play since moving into the starting lineup but presents a very plausible question about Marvin Williams‘ starting spot once Cody Zeller returns. With Kaminsky’s production as a starter, it will be tough to move him back to the bench but it would almost be admitting defeat if Steve Clifford moved Williams, who signed a big contract in the summer, to the second unit. The head coach will have a lot of decisions to make but it there is encouraging signs surrounding Kaminsky’s sophomore season.

Where do the Hornets Go From Here?

“All of that relies on the Hornets’ ability to attract a star, which isn’t going to happen without some lottery luck. Since that probably won’t happen, they just need to focus on rebuilding the bench around their young stars and their bad contracts. If they do that well enough, they can come back next year and actually present a threat.” (HashtagBasketball.com)

The Charlotte Hornets’ future has been a big question as of late with their limited cap space, underperforming players and their current spot in the standings. Quinn Pilkey attempts to answer a few questions about the team’s future and claims that they should start from the bottom. Adding key bench/role players is key for them going forward and that makes sense since they don’t have a lot of cap space to sign a star or an instant impact player this summer.
