With the NBA lottery fast approaching, the question of who will represent the Charlotte Hornets during the process remains a mystery.

The Charlotte Hornets finished with the 11th worst record this season, thus meaning that they will be a part of the NBA lottery. This year’s lottery is set to take place on May 16th and the team will have a 0.8% chance of landing the first overall pick and a 2.9% chance of getting into the top three. (BleacherReport.com) Who will they choose to represent them during the process?

Most franchises go with owners, staff members, head coaches, players or even family members of the owner. Charlotte could go in any number of directions. With this being their 10th appearance in the lottery since basketball returned to the Queen City in 2004, they could use some good luck. (Basketball-Reference.com) With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the team’s past representative and who should represent them this year.

Most recently, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist represented the Hornets back in 2015. The team had the ninth worst record that year and only had a 1.7% chance of landing the first pick. After all was said and done, Charlotte received the ninth pick. That selection would turn out to be Frank Kaminsky With that luck, MKG shouldn’t be their man this year. Watch the 2015 lottery here.

In 2014, the Hornets did not have a representative at the lottery as they did not originally have a lottery pick. With the Cleveland Cavaliers getting the top pick despite having the 10th worst record, it pushed the Detroit Pistons from 8th to 9th which meant their top-8 protected pick went to Charlotte. That pick ended up becoming Noah Vonleh. Hey, that was pretty lucky. Maybe they should try having no one there again. Watch the 2014 lottery here.

In 2013, the then-team president/ CEO in Fred Whitfield was the then-Bobcats’ representative. Charlotte had the second-worst record in the league which gave them a 55.74% chance of getting a top three pick. As we all know, the Washington Wizards (8th worst record) jumped the Bobcats into the top-3 and left Charlotte with the fourth overall pick that turned into Cody Zeller. In no way should Whitfield be the representative again. Watch the 2013 lottery here.

In 2012, general manager Rich Cho was selected to represent Charlotte. The Bobcats had the worst record in the league after a disappointing 7-59 season. Luckily, they had the best chances of getting the top pick at 25%. Unluckily, the New Orleans Hornets leapfrogged them and got the top pick leaving Charlotte picking second overall. We all remember how unlucky and painful this was. The team missed out on Anthony Davis and ended up getting MKG. My vote is No Cho for this year’s lottery. Watch the 2012 lottery here.

Or don’t because you shouldn’t want to relive this.

So that’s a no for MKG, Fred Whitfield and Rich Cho. My vote would go to owner Michael Jordan. Have the GOAT represent the Charlotte Hornets and maybe the ping pong balls will fall their way. It’s worth a try after so many failed lottery appearances. Kemba Walker could also be in play, although my gut says Frank Kaminsky will get the call.
