Buzz City Beat is Swarm and Sting’s one stop for the best articles from around the internet surrounding the Charlotte Hornets.

In this edition of Buzz City Beat, we look at the Charlotte Hornets‘ two bad contracts, Dwight Howard‘s supposed beef with Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Bacon is one of the few impressive second round picks this year.

Hornets’ worst contracts (BleacherReport.com)

"Nicolas Batum remains one of the NBA’s most versatile players. That much isn’t up for debate. It’s also not hard to imagine them eventually lamenting the decision—if they’re not already stricken with regret. Singling out Marvin Williams here has everything to do with last year’s regression, and his ability—or lack thereof—to come back from it."

Bleacher Report put together the five worst contracts throughout the NBA for each position and two of Charlotte’s players were named. Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams both have the fourth worst contracts at their respective positions. The Hornets signed Nic and Marvin to lucrative deals last summer after both were coming off of career seasons.

Even though Batum and Williams are both on this list, they could easily change that with a bounce back year in 2017. It’s pretty crazy to think these two contracts are considered bad deals because multiple other teams were trying to sign them to bigger contracts than what Charlotte did. It will be interesting to see if the Hornets end up regretting the decision to re-sign both of these players to such massive contracts.

Dwight Howard denies beef with Kobe (CBSsports.com)

"Q: why did you and Kobe beef in LA? DWIGHT: we didn’t beef. Since we were losing they needed a story that would sell"

Dwight’s one season in Los Angeles was a disaster for multiple reasons. They went through three different head coaches and barely squeaked into the playoffs. The trio of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Howard just didn’t work. After talks of a Championship before the year began, the Lakers were swept in the first round.

Overshadowing the on court failures were rumors of a rift between Kobe and Dwight. Almost five years later and Howard is denying that there was ever beef between the two superstars. The Hornets’ newest big man has been pretty active on Twitter lately and is roasting people in the process.

Bacon among few impressive second round picks (BleacherReport.com)

"Bacon finished summer league with 29 points against the Orlando Magic. He made an interesting case as a scoring specialist for his ability to create and make shots from all three levels."

Bleacher Report ranked the best summer league rookies this year. Hornets’ second round pick Dwayne Bacon came in just outside the top-10 as an honorable mention. It’s worth noting that the Florida State product is one of only two second rounders to make the list with the other being Jordan Bell.
