The Charlotte Hornets’ season opener was far from the way that they would’ve planned to start the year. They were defeated in their opening game by their divisional rivals, the Miami Heat, 104-94. The team did not play particularly well and at times struggled on both sides of the ball. The score was a lot closer than the game really showed.

Although we are only one game into the season and we shouldn’t overreact too much to the way that the team played, I would like to give you five takeaways that I observed in this one. There is always room to improve and even without Michael Kidd-Gilchrist this season the Charlotte Hornets can still compete against better opponents.

The long grind on the 82 game NBA season has its ups and downs and with an opening night loss that was so deflating to a team that wanted to start the year strong, the Charlotte Hornets may need to make changes sooner rather than later.

Although I do no think the Charlotte Hornets first game this season will be indicative of how the rest of the year goes, there are some things that we can takeaway from this loss to the Miami Heat.
