1. Al Jefferson is still the Charlotte Hornets’ best offensive option.

Before the first game for the Charlotte Hornets this season, it looked as though if they had changed their offensive identity to a team that would play faster and shoot more threes. But one thing was very clear watching the game last night, Al Jefferson was still the team’s best option on the offensive end.

Whenever the Charlotte Hornets struggled they reverted back to their ways of old and gave the ball to Big Al on the low post almost every offensive possession down the floor because everyone else simply couldn’t find their shot last night in the first half.

Jefferson scored 17 points in the first half and was getting almost any shot he wanted on the low block. I’m not sure if this trend will continue but from the first game it seems as though if we will see a lot of Al Jefferson post ups this season and Kemba Walker is still going to run around the court taking a lot of bad mid range shots that result in a low field goal percentage.

This Hornets team did not look much different in their first game this season against the Mimi Heat than how they looked all of last season. Hopefully things can change going forward and I expect them to but as of now these are the five takeaways from the game.
