7. With the return of MKG, is the only weakness for the Charlotte Hornets going to be at the center position?
Jerry Stephens: I think that the center position is the only question mark because Al Jefferson is out. Once he returns, the team will be at full strength and play like they did in the beginning of the season. They are a good team when they are all healthy. Next season a change is needed at center though going forward.
DeShawn White: Cody is the man, but not the man for that job unfortunately. He’s great and should definitely be on this team, but I still think we need more from our starting center, at least more defensively. Offensively he has some explosiveness and brings excitement, but we need a big strong rim protector on the inside to keep aggressors from scoring at will. No one on the Hornets’ roster scares people away from driving the lane, and until we get that, we’ll still be relying on MKG and Batum heavily to keep the ball midrange or further.
Connor Penegar: I agree totally with Deshawn that although Zeller is a good player, he’s not the right one for this team. I’ve been extremely impressed with Cody’s development since his time at Indiana, but I don’t think Zeller is the long-term answer at the 5 spot for this team. This team needs a defensive center who specializes in blocking shots and rebounding. A few quick names that come to mind are Hassan Whiteside, Greg Monroe and Dwight Howard. Although Howard gets a bad reputation around the league, I think he is everything that this team needs. If somehow Howard opts out of his current deal with Houston, which he very well could, Charlotte should at least talk to him. I’ve always dreamt of having Howard on the Hornets, and this could be the perfect time for him to come here. He would more than likely be cheaper than Hassan Whiteside and wouldn’t sign a long-term deal.
