4. Who is the Charlotte Hornets’ DPOY (Defensive Player of the Year) this season?

Jerry Stephens:

Can we just give the whole team the Defensive Award? It was a collective effort for the Charlotte Hornets to be eighth in opponents point per game this season. If I had to give it to one player, it would be Kemba Walker. He averaged a team high 1.6 steals per game. Marvin Williams would get my second place vote as he was the only player on the team to average 1.0 blocks per game this season.

Deshawn White:

DPoY… I could go the usual route and highlight all of Batum’s strengths and skills, but I have to throw a monkey wrench and nominate Cody Zeller. It seems as though Zeller has been extremely active all season on defense. With smart plays leading to blocks, rebounds and transition points, alleys and slams, Zeller has matured into a quality player. He may be overlooked, but Cody is thriving as the team’s starting Center.

Connor Penegar:

Man, this is a really tough one. As Jerry said, the award should go to the team as a whole. Defense is a team effort, and the Hornets team has a defensive mentality that is fantastic. They want to establish an attitude on the defensive side of the ball on a nightly basis. I feel that Courtney Lee has been a defensive standout for the team during his time in Charlotte. He usually guards the best player on the opposing team and always does well. To be honest, he is the only individual that I feel comfortable with giving the award.
