5. The Field

There will be a lot of serviceable big men entering free agency but maybe the Charlotte Hornets want Cody Zeller as their starting center next season. If that is the case, then the team will need to be looking at a back-up center and not a star player that would cost a lot of money. We will refer to these players as the field.

More from Hornets News

There are plenty of centers that will be free agents that the Hornets could sign for a reasonable price to come from their bench. Cody Zeller wasn’t horrible as the team’s starter and maybe they will be looking to save money and just scoop up a back-up. The easy choice would be to re-sign Al Jefferson at a reasonable cost. He already said that he wants to retire with Charlotte.

Other centers that are set to be unrestricted free agents are Timofey Mozgov, Ian Mahinmi, and Roy Hibbert. None of these players put up great numbers for their teams in the 2015-2016 NBA season but they all are rebounding big men that can defend the paint. And that is exactly what the team may be looking for in their back-up big.

There are plenty of options for the Hornets to choose from with the most sensible and obvious one being Al Jefferson. He has a history with the team and he said he is okay with coming from the bench. If they could get him for a reasonable price then it would be a win for Charlotte.
