Which players on the Charlotte Hornets’ current roster could spend time with the Greensboro Swarm in the NBA Developmental League this season?

With the Charlotte Hornets’ D-League team set to have their inaugural season this year, they will need to have some players on their roster. A few of the young players that the Hornets have signed on their current roster could be featured in the Developmental League this season. Which players could spend some time in the D-League?

A few names that come to mind are Aaron Harrison and Christian Wood who the Hornets have under guaranteed contracts. A few of the players that they are bringing into their training camp could also see time with the D-League team if they choose to do so. Maybe even some of the guys from the summer league team this year could play for the Greensboro Swarm.

Aaron Harrison- Shooting Guard, 21-years old, 0.9 PPG, 0.7 RPG, 21 Games Played

More from Swarm and Sting

Harrison would have spent the entire season with the Greensboro Swarm last year but instead he was forced to sit on Charlotte’s bench the whole year. He was able to spend a few games in the D-League with the Erie Bayhawks and the Oklahoma City Blue. He averaged 17.6 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game in 13 D-League games last year. He only shot 36.3% from the field and 26.5% from the three-point line in 29.9 minutes per game. Aaron may very well likely spend most of the 2016-2017 season with the Swarm as he looks to develop his game for the Hornets.

Christian Wood- Power Forward, 20-years old, 3.6 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 17 Games Played

Wood spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers but spent most of the year in the D-League with the Delaware 87ers. He appeared in 32 Developmental League games and averaged an impressive 17.3 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 52.9% from the field, 25.3% from the three-point line, and 70.7% from the free throw line as he played in 28.8 minutes per game. He is still a young player who could use some playing time in the D-League to continue his development as he is not NBA ready just yet. Christian may jump back and forth between the Hornets and the Swarm this upcoming season.

Mike Tobey- Center, 21-years old, 7.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 37 Games Played

The Charlotte Hornets signed Tobey to a contract this offseason after he played with them in the Orlando Pro Summer League. Mike averaged 10.0 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, and 1.6 blocks per game during his five summer league games. He shot 66.7% from the field in 20.8 minutes per game.He is coming off of a four-year college career with the University of Virginia. While he has experience from college, Tobey could still use more NBA minutes in the D-League before he gets his shot in the association.

Treveon Graham- Shooting Guard/Small Forward, 22-years old, 15.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 46 Games Played

Graham is a D-League veteran who spent last season with the Idaho Stampede. He had a great season last year and his signing with the Hornets was warranted. Charlotte signed Graham to a two-year contract that has $75,000 guaranteed for the 2016-2017 season.

It is unlikely that he will be with the team past training camp but he may stick around to play for the Greensboro Swarm next year. This would allow him to be with the Charlotte Hornets’ organization and maybe get a few call ups if there are injuries to the team.

It will be interesting to see if any of these players do in fact make an appearance with the Swarm this season. The team has already announced their head coaching and stadium where they will be playing but no players are currently on the roster. The NBA D-League will likely hold their draft in late October.

These are just a few potential players for the Greensboro Swarm next season. The Charlotte Hornets will want their young players who are under contract to get some playing time next season in the D-League so that they can build their game and get some experience. Aaron Harrison and Christian Wood are the most likely candidates.
