The Charlotte Hornets arguably played their worst game so far this season as they dropped a home game in blowout fashion to the Detroit Pistons.

The Charlotte Hornets (10-8) were defeated by the Detroit Pistons (9-10) as they looked completely out of gas. This was the Hornets fourth game in five night and the second half of a back to back. It was always going to be a tough task and credit to Detroit for playing well on the road. The Pistons picked up only their second win away from home this season.

The Hornets were once again without Marvin Williams who is dealing with a Hyperextended Left Knee and they were missing him mightily in this one. Frank Kaminsky wasn’t able to replace his production and even hurt the team more than he helped, going 1-10 from the field and only scoring two points. He also got beat multiple times on defense. He is the only player on the team’s injury report but that may change as Jeremy Lamb was sent to the locker room in this one as he suffered a leg injury. A right knee contusion kept him out but the injury doesn’t appear to be too serious.

When Andre Drummond got ejected in the second quarter fro elbowing Roy Hibbert in the back fo the head, Charlotte looked like they were in a good position even after their slow start to the game. Instead, the Pistons played better with Drummond off the floor as the Hornets stumbled and looked like they were dead tired in the second half. They didn’t have their legs underneath them and this loss can surely be attributed to the NBA’s scheduling.

More from Swarm and Sting

Kemba Walker led the way for his side as he scored 23 points to go along with four assists. Marco Belinelli added 11 points off the bench and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist chipped in with 10 points. Those were the only three Hornets’ players to score in double-digits in this one. The rest of the team had a rough scoring night.

Nicolas Batum continues to struggle as he can’t seem to find the rhythm that he had last season. He only scored eight points in this one on 3-11 shooting but he did manage to grab 11 boards which are positive.

The Pistons were led by Tobias Harris who scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists on the night. 18 points and four rebounds completed Marcus Morris‘ stat line. Ish Smith scored 13 and Jon Leuer added 12 off the bench.

  • Charlotte scored a season-low 89 points.
  • Kemba has now scored 20+ points in 15 games this season.

In their next game, the Charlotte Hornets will take on the Dallas Mavericks for the first time this season on Thursday, December 1st. It will be their second straight home game as they are in the midst of a three-game homestand. Steve Clifford’s side will surely enjoy a days rest as they look to get back in the win column against Dallas.
